Eastleigh’s Lib Dem Councillors, including local MP, Mike Thornton, now admit there is little chance of fighting hostile planning applications after the Government rejected their Local Plan in December due to lack of affordable housing. The Council now fear they cannot win appeals brought by developers - so-called ‘hostile’ planning applications. The Council also faces getting less of the developer contributions that are vital to fund the healthcare, schools and roads needed for new residents.
Cllr Keith House, EBC Leader, admitted “we could be facing up to 17,000 [new] homes...we will start the process again.”

- “Eastleigh faces chaos from over-development”
Mark Latham says...“The Lib Dem Council has left local people facing decades of traffic chaos, car dependency, stretched services, and a lack of coherent infrastructure. We need affordable homes, with priority for local people - the failed Lib Dem plan leaves us at the mercy of speculative developers, who will take their profit and leave the mess behind for us to live in.”
