Meet Betty Lou Layland for Hedge End South

None

My name is Betty Lou Layland.  I am a Hedge End resident of 45 years.

I started life with my family in rented Council owned property.  As a young adult I worked in a London Stockbrokers with a high salary.  Once my marriage broke down I stayed at home, coping as a one parent family with 2 young sons.  The benefit system saw us through and we felt secure.  Whilst my sons were doing “A “and “O” level exams I trained for my Social Work degree.  I remained single, working for 16 years as a Social Worker in all Client Groups until I retired.

I have voted Labour all my life.

My belief is that Change is Coming!

The Labour Party at Borough and Government level has Policies and Plans that are nearest to my ideals. They will support vulnerable individuals and families that are struggling to “keep their head above water”.  The Labour Party will provide for us all rather than the privileged few.  Our NHS is safest in their “hands”.

I believe that living in Hedge End for so long gives me a good grasp of what you want and need from your Borough Council Members. My time relying on benefits and my career as a Social Worker has helped increase my understanding of the needs of the disadvantaged and the constraints on Professionals. There are particular difficulties with Health Care Provision which is even further being eroded by huge numbers of dwellings being built in our area. I want to keep this as a high priority issue at Borough level.

If I am elected I would prefer to hear from you which issues need my voice.  My reason for standing as a candidate is that I am passionate about retaining a Community in Hedge End which complies with the Residents preferences, as well as addressing the environmental and traffic problems of our Town Centre. There are too our GP limitations and overcrowded schools to keep high on the agenda when any planning application is being considered.  In relation to “new build”, I am fighting always for a good proportion of Council owned affordable dwellings.

If I gain a seat I will be a voice championing on behalf of the needs of the vulnerable and local resident families.

I doubt that I need to point out the failings of Liberal Democrats or Conservatives.  Our Borough Council is out of touch with the concerns and wishes of Hedge End residents.  I want to remind you of the positives of the Labour Party in that it is on the side of the vulnerable and “regular” person in the Community, retaining the NHS and NOT onside with the extremely wealthy.

I encourage you to vote “with your heart”. That is what I do when I vote Labour.

Change is long overdue, time for you to be heard.
