In 1998, I moved into temporary accommodation in Eastleigh.
At 17 years old, I attended Eastleigh College and completed an Advanced GNVQ in Art & Design.
After a year, I was housed in Velmore, during which time, via wonderful support from Labour’s New Deal scheme, and the staff at Eastleigh Job centre, I began working for Southampton City Youth Service, where I became a qualified youth worker and was subsequently employed as Editor of the youth magazine ‘Hype’, and supervisor to the New Deal team.
I worked in the city for 4 years before becoming a parent, and was housed on the Nightingale estate in 2005.
When my daughter started school, I returned to study, graduating with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Fine Art, at Winchester School of Art.
I am now employed as an Activities Coordinator for the charity South East Hampshire Community Outlook, working in Portsmouth, Gosport, Havant and Fareham, where I have developed a community art space with Big Lottery Funding and support from Fareham borough council and Vivid Housing.
We run free open sessions for local youth, with trips to the theatre and residential activities, and working with Highbury college, we offer free creative courses for adults.
It’s my job to make sure everybody gets a fair chance to be who they want to be, to create opportunities for locals to pursue their dreams and aspirations, to find training opportunities to enable their skills and to support them to reach their full potential.
I have a passion for Eastleigh, this is where I was given the opportunities and support to grow and progress, I’m living proof of investment returning!
Everybody should have a fair chance to build a life which not only provides them with a safe and secure base for living, bringing up a family, spending time with loved ones, but one which provides a platform for imagination and creativity!
Life should not be a constant struggle to simply survive and get by!
I believe the Labour party is the only party with policies that ensure people get the precious space and time they absolutely deserve to enjoy life!
Investment in people and support for each other always returns to feed the same drive!
Eastleigh has all the potential to showcase these standards, a beautiful Borough with wonderful character, a community of caring, imaginative and creative people, Labour can ensure everybody gets the opportunities they deserve to truly live, thrive and be happy.
