PPC Candidate for 2015 General Election

ECLP Celebrating Candidate Selection

Eastleigh Labour Party has selected its candidate for the 2015 General Election.

Mark Latham, a business publisher from Hamble, has been chosen by Eastleigh Labour Party as their candidate for the 2015 General Election. A small business owner for 20 years, Mark currently works as a commercial director of LabourList.org

Mark say:

"In Eastleigh, and the country as a whole, we have Orwellian politicians who say one thing and do another. I saw today on Eastleigh Borough Council's website 'The Local Plan 2011 - 29 was submitted in July 2014' - that's not much of a plan; three years late, it's still not in place and it means developers have a free-for-all with infill developments making no contributions to schools, roads or local surgeries. That matters because there are no primary school places and for local people this means a wait of five or six weeks to see a GP. I decided to stand up and at least shout about the lies of a yellow borough blaming a blue county council while we get squeezed in the middle"

I have just joined the 38 degrees campaign to email local candidates about their proposals to deal with big bank and corporate tax dodging, in the light of the latest revelations about HSBC’s involvement in tax avoidance schemes. The list of candidates did not include a Labour candidate. My email was sent to Mike Thornton, Mims Davies, Ron Meldrum and Colin Bex (I didn’t even know there was a Wessex Regionalisation Party!) Can you explain to me why, in the current climate of complete disillusionment with this current Government’s Con/Dem austerity policies, that we in Eastleigh’s Parliamentary constituency are still being coerced into voting tactically for Lib Dem, if we are left of centre, because Labour have no chance here. I am sick of being told that if I vote Labour it is a wasted vote in Eastliegh, and I will simply be voting Conservatives in. Surely now is the time for our Labour candidate to speak up for those of us with a social conscience, and a desire to see a government elected which will turn the tide for the ordinary worker, and those vulnerable in our society. Please reassure me that the Labour Party is going to invest time and resources in our constituency to put up a real fight here. Tell me what your ideas are about making big business and those who hold most of the wealth pay their fair share, to give the rest of us a better NHS, better education, improved law and order and better welfare for our elderly and sick.
